Whale Watching

Whale Watching at its BEST!

During the 2011-12 season, we had an absolute record-breaking season of whale encounters. Our captains have even been called the “whale whisperers” by some! We use the latest technology along with our instincts to provide outstanding results for our guests.

When you take a whale watching trip with us, you benefit from our vast knowledge and expertise with over ten years of experience looking for and finding whales in the waters surrounding The Turks Islands. Nothing is more spectacular than swimming with the gentle giants or watching them breech only an arm’s reach from your boat. In-water whale encounters are possible but rare. When they happen, however, they become an adventure of a lifetime. We guarantee you will see whales on your first trip… or the next one is 25% off!

Each of the trips offered with Crystal Seas Adventures/Aqua Tours is designed for comfort, relaxation and your personal enjoyment. We strive to make any trip you select a memorable and unforgettable experience in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Humpback Whale Facts

The female humpback whale is the largest in the species ranging in length from 40-45 feet long.  The male grows to between 36-41 feet long. Humpback calves are born 6-10 ft. long and weigh 1000 lbs. They feed three times daily consuming 80 gallons of their mother’s milk.

The humpback whale song, considered to be one of the most complex acoustic displays in nature, can often be heard while diving or snorkeling during the winter months on Salt Cay. Only males sing, and they sing mainly in the winter breeding grounds. Researchers used to think they sang to attract females, but they now believe the songs simply attract other males in a kind of social interaction.

The humpback whales that you see in the waters around Salt Cay and Grand Turk are part of the four thousand strong North Atlantic Herd who spend their summers feeding in the nutrient rich waters from Cape Cod to the Bay of Fundy. The whales then migrate south to spend the winter in the warm tropical waters between the Turks Islands and the Silver Banks north of the Dominican Republic.
